central, IL purchase boat previous owner doesnt have title is it legal to sell to me, I have bill of sales?
the previous owner said he was waiting on the title from where he got it from, I called the DNR they said he never applied for title and didnt pay the taxes on it. The coast guard has the boat on file. but is it against the law to sale a boat without a title in IL, I just have a bill of sales but its not notarize DNR said the previous owner is still on the title. did I just get taken??? any help would be great. thanks. DNR said until the title and taxes are paid I will not be able to registered or title the boat because its not been changed over. I am the 3rd party owner do I have rights need help, is this fraud base on what I have explain???? thanks
Since you have a bill of sale you should be able to apply for a lost title, but unless the previous owner is willing to pay the taxes you are going to be stuck for them. As far as the legality of the sale, it’s a buyer be ware world.
